New Youth Fitness Speed Training Program Coming to San Antonio
Local Fitness Professional Steve Payne Launches Youth 1 Day Introductory
Speed Clinic’s at STAR Soccer Complex Near Morgan’s Wonderland
San Antonio – August 5, 2010 – Local youth fitness expert Steve Payne recently announced the launch of the STAR Speed Clinics for Kids, San Antonio’s premier youth speed and quickness program.
The first in a series of speed clinics will be held on September 4th from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the STAR (South Texas Area Regional) Soccer Complex near Morgan’s Wonderland in Northeast San Antonio at Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks Drive, not far from IH 35.
Payne said, “With the advent of such deleterious factors as fast food, computers, TV and video games, kids today aren’t as active as they were when I was a kid, so many never learned good body awareness or control from an early age. Over 50% of our children are overweight and almost 20% are obese. We’re elated to begin offering the STAR Speed Clinics program to help kids learn the mechanics of speed and quickness, as well as enhance their safety in sports, in a safe, fun, non-intimidating format.”
Payne says that providing youth fitness programming is a natural extension of his organization’s commitment to the community. “We have always been committed to offering quality programs and services to our community, so offering this much needed program was a no-brainer. The vast majority of kids today have sedentary lifestyles even if they are participating in sports activities. Our programs are designed with safety and fun in mind; if it’s not fun, kids are not going to stick with it. The STAR Speed Clinics training system has been developed by the world’s leading youth fitness organization, the International Youth Conditioning Association, and will be delivered by certified fitness professionals who will help motivate and inspire the kids.”
Dub Farris, Director of the STAR soccer complex said, “Having Steve Payne’s expertise and partnership is another unique opportunity for STAR to offer high-quality innovative programs for the regional soccer community, especially for the younger athletes. Young players are almost never taught this type of training early on and I believe it is vitally important for them to learn how they can increase their speed and ultimate fitness level as future soccer stars.  Steve’s heart is in the right place and has committed to fully supporting STAR and the Morgan’s Wonderland cause and I thank him for that. This will be one of many programs we will be partnering together on.”
All proceeds from these clinics will go directly to and benefit Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park designed with special-needs individuals of all ages in mind. Funding from tournaments, clinics and special events at STAR Soccer enables Morgan’s Wonderland to admit individuals with special needs free of charge.
