Our Lady of the Lake University Men met University of Houston – Victoria on Friday night and played out a thrilling draw, despite two halves of extra-time being played. The most likely team was UHV who, with just seconds left, forced a brilliant save out of Marco Herrera who made five saves for the night.
OLLU Women were able to record their fourth clean sheet of the season as they defeated UHV 2-0. Hannah Collazo opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before she turned assistant for Alisa Bernal to score the winner in the 63rd minute.
St. Mary’s Men couldn’t make their man advantage pay, after a late red card to Newman University on Friday night as they lost 1-0. The freak storm that hit, no doubt hurt their chances, as the lightning involved resulted in a mandatory delay, and with the field completely soaked conditions were not good for soccer. With just eight minutes remaining Marcos Perez pounced on a deflected shot only to send his effort just wide.
St. Mary’s Women lost their first road match of the season as they went down 2-1 to Central Oklahoma. St. Mary’s trailed to two first half goals before Leia Kirch scored to give the side some hope in the 72nd minute. Central Oklahoma were the deserved winners, hitting 25 shots.
Trinity Men put Texas Lutheran to the sword as they ran out 8-2 (4-0 HT) winners on Thursday night. Zach Garcia was the star of the show with a hat trick (2’, 35’, 88’ pen.) and an assist. Other scorers were Tommy Barros (27’, 68’), Yuri Ribeiro (32’), Josh Adams (67’), Denny Mask (72’). Trinity were 27-8 leaders on shots and held a 5-0 lead in the corner count.
Trinity Women got the right result in their first home game of the season, destroying UC Santa Cruz 5-0 (1-0 HT). Kelly Watts got the match started with a goal from midfield in the 30th minute before the side unleashed in the second half scoring four goals through Jordan Azar (49’), Katy Lidscomb (55’), Danika Wright (73’) and Valerie Rutan (79’)
University of the Incarnate Word Men suffered an emphatic defeat at the hands of Midwestern State University, losing 6-1 (4-0 HT) on Friday night in their first Lone Star Conference match of the year. The Cardinals goal scorer was Troy Thompson in the 82nd minute as the side were outshot 24-5.
UIW Women returned home to put UT Brownsville to the sword winning 4-1 with two goals in each half. The scoring started in the 26th minute with Sydney Solomon finishing off a cross from Sarah Hernandez, before Asher scored her goal, capitalizing on a mistake. Amber Gunther scored the third in the 61st minute, taking advantage of some pinball in the box. Hernandez turned goal scorer after a Gunther pass allowed her to beat the keeper and score, after UIW conceded a penalty.
UTSA Women gave up a half-time lead as they lost 3-1 to the University of Houston. In a tight defensive game it was Maria Jose Rojas who scored the goal for the Roadrunners in the 43rd minute, her fourth of the season.
