A disappointing away trip to Edmonton resulted in the Scorpions returning to San Antonio this week tied at the bottom of the table with only one point after three games. The poor start to the season is evident as the only team not to score a goal yet in 2013. Well, we’ve scored as much as the New York Cosmos.

The high-powered Atlanta Silverbacks visit Toyota Field today. Atlanta made a number of changes last season and that has propelled them to a league leading 8 goals. They started this Spring undefeated with two wins before Minnesota scored two late to win last weekend.

Atlanta’s defense has been been a little suspect allowing 6 goals in three games. The Scorpions will have to take advantage of that weak defense in order to earn their first goal of the season.

You can watch this game on the local MeTV if unable to make this game.

Our board members had this to say:

Rich Moore (Vice President): The Scorpions have the talent and experience to win this match. The defense and midfield are playing well, but the team needs to be smarter in the attacking 3rd of the field.  Convert those “chances” into goals.

Michael McDonald (At Large Board Member): Last week we missed many opportunities in the front of the goal and it reminded me of this quote:Bob Paisley advising his players:“If you’re in the penalty area and don’t know what to do with the ball, put it in the net and we’ll discuss the options later.”

James Hope (President): The first three matches have been frustrating, but we are still creating chances. There’s still plenty of time to notch a few victories. We will certainly do our part of singing and chanting as loud as we can to support our Scorpions.

There may not be enough time. Another loss could mean the end to this season’s push for the final. Expect there to be goals in this game. Scorpions 1 – 1 Atlanta Silverbacks.
